Dr. Kristen Nelson

After graduation from Minnehaha Academy High School in Minneapolis, Kristen moved to Illinois where she attended Wheaton College and received her B.A. in Politcal Science and Biology. Next, Kristen was off to the University of South Dakota Medical School in Vermillion.  She returned to her hometown and the University of Minnesota, to complete her residency in OB/GYN.

Dr. Nelson comes to CHCW from Red Wing, Minnesota, where she has been caring for Fairview patients since 1999. While there, she served as chair of the OB/GYN Department for three years. She also served on the OB/GYN teams at Allina Medical Center in Northfield and at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

"I tend to think outside the box. I listen intently and continue to think about my patients well after the day is done. You never know when you will come up with the solution to a complex problem," she says.

Kristen looks at the whole person -- mind, body and soul.  She actively studies integrative and anti-aging medicine in order to enrich the lives of her patients.  She is passionate about all aspects of her patient's wellbeing and she specializes in advanced vaginal surgery - especially for prolapse.

In her spare time she has fun with her family. Kristen met her husband William through an introduction from her sister-in-law when she was in residency.  Kristen, William and their three children enjoy outdoor sports including cycling, skiing and boating. "I love cooking shows, chick flicks and shopping," says Kristen.
